Small Bowel Obstruction due to Phytobezoar following Subtotal Gastrectomy


Abstract
Small bowel obstruction due to phytobezoar following gastric resection has been rareyl reported.
Many surgeons suggest that the phytobezoar should be. suspected in any patient who suffers. . from simple bowel obstruction following gastric surgery.
Several foods are pointed out as One of the etiologic factors of postgastrectomy phytobezoar. It is important that the patient who under went the gastric surgery should avoid certain foods such as grape fruits, oranges, figs, apples, cabbages, berries, persimmon and baked potato peel unless they are finly chewed or mechanically minced.
We experienced a case of small bowel obstruction by phytobezoar after subtotal gastrectomy. This phytobezoar was made of orange.
